Just Like Dad

Every once in a while, I'll be browsing through pictures on my external hard drive, looking for just the right pictures for a certain theme...only to find something completely different and feel compelled to scrap that instead. That's exactly what happened last night - I found hilarious pictures that I had snapped of my girls wearing Daddy's pants, shoes and glasses...and off I went in search of the perfect kit to scrap them with. I found it in Aprilisa's kit Dad's the Man:

Not only was it perfect for this page, but now I feel compelled to go dig out some pictures of Gene and his dad - all of the screws and other "manly" elements would be perfect for a father/son page too. Here's what I made:

I was happy to be assigned to one of my favorite designers at DSC this month - Double Dutch Designs. She makes the neatest kits...including this one, Lost in Space:

Rachael has been meandering around the house for a couple of days now with a googly eye stuck to her forehead - a situation that just demanded to be scrapped. So I yelled at her to fetch her third eyeball, snapped a pic, and scrapped:

Okay, I'm not really...but I DID recently learn to make some! I was chosen as a hostess of a Ball-hosted "Discover You Can" canning party from HouseParty.com - I've been wanting to learn to can things for a while (just like Grandma used to do!) and this was a great opportunity. Of course, I took lots of pictures - and then I found a great kit for scrapping them. Check out A Pinch and A Dash by Blue Heart Designs - this one would be great for SO many cooking layouts!

Not what I had in mind...

Having gone to the beach and taken a ton of pictures in early June, I was thrilled to discover that Digital Scrap Cafe's Jully collab kit was a beachy kit. I had SO MUCH to scrap with this one!

So I sat down to create a layout or two, and started going through all of our beach pictures. I had intended to scrap pictures of my girls playing in the sand or splashing in the ocean, but another picture grabbed my attention instead:

A sweet friend had lost her newborn daughter to complications of CDH just two days before our planned beach trip. Rachael and I had been so constantly in prayer for sweet Penelope, and so in love with this strong little girl, that we just couldn't get her off our minds while we were there. Nor would we have wanted to. So we wrote her name in the sand and snapped this picture before the tide rolled in, in memory of a precious angel.

Earlier that same day, we had visited Ripley's Aquarium, and I couldn't resist scrapping some of those shots with an adorable fishy paper from the same kit:

It's been a while...

I've slacked off my scrapping again, but there's a reason for it. The end of May was crammed full of Girl Scout activities (zip line adventure, sleepover, day camp, SPCA service project, end-of-year pizza party and awards) and then a week at the beach to follow it up! But I'm back and playing catch-up, starting with a couple of pages of my favorite little Scouts. Dutsji Designs had a darling kit that was just the thing for them, too - check out Happy Campers:

Isn't that sweet? Since Girl Scouts/Boy Scouts are licensed, there aren't many scout-y kits to be found, but this one really does work well. Here are a couple of pages from my troop's recent adventures:

I've been scrapping so many boyish pages lately (well outside the realm of my comfort zone!) that I decided to do something pink and springy tonight. Check out the gorgeous April collab kit from DigitalScrapCafe, Spring Awakening:

Isn't it beautiful?! Of course I had to scrap a page of my girlies on Easter morning. For this one, I used a template from Frame It Templates Vol. I by Three Sweet Chicks:

This picture was also in need of scrapping. My Girl Scout troop had a "throwback night" last week, where the girls dressed in clothes from different eras and learned about the way Girl Scouts has progressed over the last 99 years. I'll need a bright, funky kit to scrap a picture of my 80s girl...but this one was perfect for sweet little 1940s Amelia!

Taking a quick break away from my nephew's first year book to scrap a little something else...in this case, a recent Girl Scout lock-in! My daughter and I - along with three other moms and a dozen other girls - spent a night locked into a local mall, where they played games and snacked until around 4 a.m. (I never did go to sleep, and neither did Rachael - she was the only little one to stay awake all night!) Anyway, this kit was just too perfectly girly not to use it for such a girly event - Colors of Love by Aprilisa Designs:

And some candids of the night's festivities...this page was was made using a template from Sara Ellis's Template Tools - Party. Unfortunately, I don't think Sara is currently designing, and I'm not sure where you can find her awesome templates at the moment.

I feel like I've been scrapping at a snail's pace lately - life does get in the way of hobbies, doesn't it? But since Judah's first birthday has already flown by, I really need to hustle on the rest of his first year album! Here are his four month pages, using the adorable kit Connor by Designs by Brooke.

With just 24 short hours to go until my nephew's first birthday...I've just finished scrapping his third month. His gift is clearly going to be a bit late...guess I'll have to send something a little more fun (like a cool toy) in the meantime.

Here's the latest that I used to scrap Judah's first year - Expecting by Dream Big Designs. Too bad his mom hid her belly in nearly every picture while she was pregnant with him, or I could have used this one for a great pre-baby page as well!

Isn't that sweet? There's enough pink and blue to make it work for either gender, and I'm a sucker for either one mixed with brown. And I have to admit, the little monkey greatly influenced my choice to use this kit:

With one week to go until my nephew's first birthday, I'm working like a madwoman to get his first year scrapped (hooray for procrastination!) The latest two pages in his album were creating using the kit Family Sentiments by AVdesigns:

I know, I know, I need to be working solely on Judah pages from now until his birthday...but I had to take a break from the little cutie to do something with my own girls. (Okay, so Judah's sister still made it into one of these layouts.) Having finally had a white Christmas for the first time in years, it simply demanded to be scrapped.

Unfortunately, being cooped up inside so much during the cold weather means some inevitable schooltime blahs as well:

Yep, I'm making progress, slowly but surely. For his 3-6 week pages, my little nephew was wearing the cutest little striped sleeper and hanging out on an animal print blanket...and I couldn't believe it when I searched for an animal-themed kit and found a perfect match! Yep, I'm officially behind...my little nephew will be ONE in February, and I'm barely getting started on his first year scrapbook. I've actually done a couple of pages, but just am not in love with them...so here's starting over.

The kit I chose for the first couple of pages (two and three, just behind the title page) was My Boy by Double Dutch Designs. Check out this cuteness!

And here are the pages...fingers crossed that his mom doesn't happen to read my scrap blog. ;) Just click if you'd like to see them larger.

Slowly but surely, I will catch up on holiday scrapping...I didn't take many pictures on Thanksgiving (too busy stuffing my face), but had to find a use for this super kit, Give Thanks, by Double Dutch Designs:

Isn't it great? I haven't found a use for the (live) turkey yet, but I WILL!

I'm so thankful to have had two wonderful little chef's helpers this year...it was the first time that Milly has really taken an interest in helping cook!

Okay, so I seem to be the teensiest bit behind again. I just finished two Halloween pages, and I have a couple of Thanksgiving pages to go...and then I'm free to scrap Milly's birthday (next week) and then CHRISTMAS. Holy cow, where did 2010 go?!

Anyway...check out the super cute kit that I chose for this year's Halloween pages - Witches Brew, by Big Dream Designs:

There are so many more cute elements than I managed to work into my own pages in my scrap-deprived state...but here's what I came up with. In case you can't tell, my girls were Rainbow Brite and Alice (in Wonderland) this year. :)

I especially loved the "bootiful" tag, since they are. :)

We're FINALLY having a day here in southern Virginia that truly feels like fall. It's windy, cool enough for jeans and long sleeves, and yellow, orange and brown leaves are swirling everywhere. I LOVE IT! Fall is absolutely my favorite season, and I'm thrilled to see it return. Okay, I just plain fell in love with this kit by Laurie's Scraps - it's called While Beauty Sleeps:

The colors are just perfectly girly and...well, I kind of have this thing about taking sleeping pictures of my girls, so doesn't the title sound perfect for that?! :)

First, I thought I'd show off some of my first-thing-in-the-morning birthday pictures. I have to have my last shots of each girl before they actually turn a year older...which is easier with Rachael (below) as she was born at 7:33 PM, versus Little Miss 7:04 AM who came next. This page was made with one of Le Pingouin's Shattered Blocks templates - check out the next post for another one!

And then, since we had the Sleeping Beauty theme going on and all...I just couldn't resist doing this. :)

Back to school time is behind us now...six weeks behind us, in fact...and I'm finally finding a little time to scrap it. Yes, it's been that busy - but we love our little homeschool despite the craziness! The amazing designers at Digital Scrap Cafe put out a great back to school collab back in August. Hey, mama...what do you drive? No matter what your mom-mobile may be, you need to document it now...so you can remind your little ones when they're grown what you used to chauffeur them around in. Constantly. Check out this kit - Mom's Taxi, by Simply Scrappy:

How much fun is that?! Okay, the first thing I did was completely scraplift my fellow CT member, Stacy. You can see her original layout here. Or you can just keep looking, because I really did just shamelessly copy everything but her actual journaling and background paper. Hey, sometimes a layout is just too perfect not to have for your very own. ;)

So, last week I finally got to meet, in person, my sweet little nephew that lives on the opposite end of the country. He's such a precious baby! I've been working on scrapping his first year as a first birthday gift, although I'm not doing them in any particular order. So even though he's six months old now, I think I'm finally happy with these two newborn pages.

NOTE: Should my wonderful sister-in-law stumble across my scrap blog, she should probably skip this post, so as to be surprised come February-ish. :)

I'm forever on the lookout for great baby boy kits...having two girls, I have NONE in my collection. I prefer kits that are baby-ish but not super cutesy...clean and classy is my goal for my nephew's album. Sweet Pea Whimsy (boy version) by Ruby Lane worked nicely for these pages:

Whew, these BOY pages just don't come as easily to me as girly pages. Guess it's all in what you get used to, huh? More to come!

If you have a child older than say, three days old, you can probably attest to the fact that they grow up much too quickly. I keep telling mine that they're not allowed, but they keep on doing it anyway. So when I saw Simply Scrappy's new kit, Trendy Tween:

I immediately thought of my "big" girl. Who is SIX. And acts like she's 14 or so.

There is a TON of great Trendy Tween stuff to be found at Elemental Scraps too. There's the kit itself, a template pack (one of which I used on this page), some really cool clusters (like the frame on my page) and worn papers (the only thing I *didn't* use here!) Or, you could just snag the entire bundle while it's on sale for just $7.50, because you're gonna want it all. :)

No, not right now...already been there and done that for this summer. And after middle-of-the-night deflated air mattress issues during our last trip, I'm not in a HUGE hurry to go again. I don't know what got into me...my scrap mojo just up and abandoned me, and apparently decided to take the whole summer off. Thanks to the lovely ladies at the JM Digi Scrap board and the Scrapathon they hosted this weekend, though, I've once again ventured into Photoshop and made a few new pages to share. Maybe I can stick with it, since I'm woefully behind on my scrapping!

To begin with, I backed up to LawTeeDa's Christmas in July kit, Merry & Bright, which is available at ScrapMatters for $5.99:

This month has been busy with something that I actually never saw coming: T-ball! Rachael isn't exactly an athletic child, but when her two best friends both decided to play, she wanted to give it a go too. We've had a blast with practices (she's made a great new friend on her team, and I've made a great new friend in the little girl's mom) and game days have been way more fun than I anticipated. We're near the end of the season now, and I have lots more pics to scrap, but all of these are from the very first game on May 1st. Double Dutch Design's kit Sliding Into Home was just perfect for our T-ball pics, right down to the orange papers that match her uniform!

My favorite word in the world. :) I'm a little behind (okay, a lot behind) and should have had pages with this kit finished in time for Mother's Day. But, better late than never, right? Introducing...Dear Mother by Valarie Ostrom Designs:

Being mom to two little girls, I just loved all the pink in this one...

And then, of course, I had to do a page with my own mommy as well. :)

Daddy-Daughter Dance, Part I

I've been looking forward to the daddy/daughter dance that the local Girl Scout troops put together since they announced this year's dance in January...it finally happened, and now I have pics to scrap! I had originally downloaded another kit just for these pics...and then LawTeeDa Designs came up with Sweet Something, and I had to use it instead. For the first two pages, at least. ;)

So here they are, in all their dance finery...and I have more coming with another kit soon. ;)

That kit couldn't have BEEN more perfect for those pics, could they? (You can't tell it very well from his picture, but there was quite a bit of red in Gene's tie, to match Rachael's dress.) A little recoloring, and...perfection. :) This kit is really quite well suited to any formal/dance/wedding pics, and who doesn't have those to scrap? It's only available at ScrapMatters (and only $3.60)!

I'm having one of those days where it's a little hard to feel blissful. One child not paying attention to her schoolwork, whining and complaining at the very existence of math, the other child crying because she's not the focus of my attention. It's nice, on days like these, to take a quick scrap break and scrap something cheerful. LawTeeDa's latest, Follow Your Bliss, was great for a little pick-me-up:

My girls have left a Sesame Street book lying in my bedroom floor for a good week now - I would have picked it up, but there's a sign on the open page that says "Fishy Wishes" and I just smile every time I notice it lying there. Just thought I'd explain that title...and it kind of has something to do with this post, after all. Check out Laura Burger's fishing kit, Fisherman's Dream:

This kit just immediately made me think of my dad's dad, Pawpaw, who's been gone for several years now...but who I never see a fish without remembering:

My little girl loves to fish too, although she's only been a handful of times so far. Daddy has, of course, bought her a pink fishing rod of her very own. :)

Okay, I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that my (incredibly computer savvy) sister-in-law doesn't stumble across my scrap blog...because I'm working on a first year album for her new little boy, and I'm going to share pages here along the way. :) I paper scrapped an album for his big sister, and hope they'll like a digital version just as much. I did the title page a while back, and wanted to do two more of his first day/week...and Quentin & Emma by Graham Like the Cracker couldn't have been more perfect for these pages!

Milly doesn't have a favorite teddy bear - she has a favorite baby doll instead. Sadie was handed down from her sister, but she's very much loved in spite of being secondhand. Since Milly insisted on having her picture made with Sadie at the same time I snapped the one of Rachael and Stuffy, I thought I'd scrap it with the same kit and with the same selective coloring. My Munchkin by LawTeeDa Designs has been on my "need to scrap with" list for quite some time now - and I finally made time today! It's an awesome baby girl kit, although she also has boyish and neutral versions in her store at ScrapMatters. This is the girly version that caught my eye:

The first page that I made with it was a P365 page for Rachael's first year. The alpha was a freebie from Just So Scrappy, to match her Love You kit:

What really grabbed my attention, though, were the cloth diaper elements in this kit. There's plenty of sweet girly things for non-CD'ers, of course, but being that I love my cloth dipes...

No, not right now - everyone is perfectly healthy right now, aside from hubby's pollen aversion. But I've been meaning to scrap a few pics of my older daughter for a while, and finally found the perfect kit to do it - Double Dutch Design's Good Medicine:

Rachael spent five days in the hospital with rotavirus when she was two years old and, although it was a miserable week, the pictures were so cute that I always meant to scrap them "someday". So today is someday. :)

I'm so blessed to have an amazing mother and two wonderful little girls in my life...and every year on my mom's birthday, she requests a picture of the four of us. The girls and I went to Dino Day at our local museum back in January, and I took a few pictures that (of course) just absolutely required scrapping. I finally got around to that tonight, and could this kit BE any more perfect for them?

Reminiscing...

That's pretty much what I do, when I'm scrapbooking...look back through old pictures and reminisce. It seems like just yesterday that my girls were tiny babies, and now look at them - so big, so independent. They're constantly growing and changing, every day is something new with them. And I never want to forget a minute of it. Not even something as simple as playing on the swings at the park:

And certainly nothing as monumental as that first real friendship:

I spent weeks planning Rachael's sixth birthday party, down the very last detail...that detail being what kit I would use to scrap it with. Well, part of it, anyway. I found this kit by One of a Kind Design Studios before the party and absolutely fell in love with it - not least of all because I knew that the colors would match my china:

Keeping it in mind, I was sure to snap some pre-party pictures of the table settings so I'd have them to scrap later:

I don't like to toot my own horn, but I'm seriously loving this page. :) Everything on the page is from the kit You're My Cup of Tea (on sale now at Pretty Scrappy for $2.39!) I also used a template from Template Set Photoshoots by LePingouin Designs, available at Divine Digital.

Anyone who's visited this blog already knows that I have two favorite things to scrap...baby girl #1 and baby girl #2. Since I've been surrounded in pink since day one, I couldn't resist the opportunity to scrap something with the latest kit from Becky Young Designs - Baby Girl:

In the interest of fairness, I try to do one page with each of my girls when I'm working on something that I know I'll be sharing here...but I got a little carried away this time while looking at Amelia's baby pictures. (She's only two, but she's soooo different now! *sniff* ) So here's one with Milly at one month:

Baby Cuteness!

Soooo...I'm thrilled to have joined Trish's CT at Bare Bones Scraps! And the first kit I've had the pleasure to work with is Brand New...in every respect, as it was just released today at Digital Scrap Cafe. :)

There's a really cute alpha that matches the kit too:

Sweet, isn't it? Of course I had to scrap a page for one of my own baby girls...

And then I got to step right outside of my comfort zone by scrapping a (gasp) BOY PAGE! Meet my new nephew, Judah...

Shhhh, don't tell my sister-in-law you saw that... You see, I scrapped an 8x8 album of my niece's first year, and sent it to her just after her first birthday. So of course, I have to scrap Judah's first year as well! This is the very first picture that was made "public" of him - so I made it into the title page. I'm so looking forward to scrapping more of him...I just hope I can keep it a secret until it's time to mail his album as well. :)

December through February seems like one non-stop birthday around here...Milly, Gene, my mom, Rachael, bambambam, one right after the other. So it took the release of a new birthday kit by one of my favorite designers to make me finally scrap a few birthday pictures:

I'm absolutely thrilled to have a guest spot this month on the CT for Laura Burger - and loooooved the first kit that I was allowed to work with, Bright Star. Check out the preview:

The pale blue and chocolate brown with just a hint of red makes this SUCH an elegant kit...I hope I was able to do it justice.

This one would be great for nature-themed layouts, with the woodsy browns and star papers and elements, but it'll do "classic" very well too. Bright Star is NEW today at Gotta Pixel for just $3.98 - go check it out!

Easter is coming!

Who can believe that tomorrow is MARCH already?! Not me...it seems as though 2010 just arrived, and two months are already gone. In just one more short month, we'll celebrate Easter on April 4th. And Pretty Scrappy is ready, with the release (tomorrow!) of their newest mega collab, Bunny Hop. Check out the first two pages I've made with it:

Here, Kitty Kitty...or Fishy?!

I always loved cats when I was a kid. Never had one, since my stepdad wasn't fond of them. (Okay, that's a gross understatement.) So when I moved into my first home, one of the first things I did was to adopt a kitten, then an older cat. I was heartbroken when we had to find a new home for them several years later, once Rachael was born and we just didn't have the time or energy to give them the attention they demanded. Flash forward five years or so...and another kitty appeared at our doorstep. And stayed. Meet Karen:

I'm so thrilled to finally have a cat around the place again that I just had to make a page for her...ahem, HIM. I used Kimberly Cameron's Here, Kitty Kitty - go take a look if you have a kitty of your own. There are so many adorable elements that didn't make it onto my page, including precious kitties in several colors. One of them may just look like your own fur baby. :)

Then I twisted the kit's theme a little and did this:

So yeah, it'll absolutely work for you if you're more of a fish person as well. ;) The second page was made using a Journal It template by LePengouin Designs - perfect for wordy scrappers such as myself!

Funky Love

Yes, my girls are sugar and spice and everything nice...but already, I can tell there's a little bit of a dark undercurrent there too. A little bit of a rock 'n roll attitude under the frilly prissiness. That's why Funky Love from LawTeeDa Designs really jumped out at me:

SO many fun elements to play with! The reds, pinks and greens make it a very girly kit, but you can easily separate the colors to make soft (perhaps even neutral?) layouts as well. I confess, I didn't make a Valentine's Day layout at all with it, but scrapped one of Rachael's dance recitals instead. Oh, how I miss the tutus now that she's defected to gymnastics...

Dreamy

As a mommy of two little girls with tons and tons of sweet pink baby pictures to scrap, I was thrilled with this next kit - Lily's Dream by Lily G Designs:

Curtains and cradles and little pink booties and sweaters, oh my! My more traditional paper-y scrap style wasn't a great fit with this kit, but I had fun stretching outside of my comfort zone to do more fantasy-styled pages. Wanna see?

I loooove purple...and I love anything girly...so when I saw Kari Q's Moonberry kit, I actually drooled a little. Seriously, check this out:

Soooo, the first page I did with the awesome purpleness was of my older daughter, Rachael, when she was nine months old, using a template from Jennilyn's Kickers 4 set:

And then I had to do one of Amelia too...this time using a template from LePingouin's Septies Plus pack. (Yes, again!)

Beautiful, no? I've got to buy the girls something purple so I can scrap with this some more...

Ma petite fleur...

Oh, how I love some pink and brown. Milly has so much pink and brown, from her clothes to her carseat. So I was super excited to see lots and lots of pink and brown in the latest kit from Tootlebugz, Petite Fleur:

At first, I resisted the call of the pink and brown, and whipped up my first P365 page for February using lots of the teal:

Then I happily succumbed to the pink and brown for week six of Rachael's P365 project:

Ma petite fleur was such a sweetie pie, was she not? Hard to believe it's been six years since she was that tiny. *sniffle*

Both of these layouts were made with Template Set Septies Plus by LePingouin Designs. I absolutely can't get enough of these templates - such an awesome way to fit a whole bunch of pictures on your page without the cluttered feel I *usually* end up with!
